Strass: a method, a freedom

In 2002, Cinergie saw in Strass a comedy about power and a freedom of direction that already pointed to what came next.

When the film reached cinemas, Cinergie noted that Strass had already travelled to festivals and found screens in France and Canada. The magazine championed this mock documentary made under the Dogme rules, a satire of spectacle and power.

The interview reveals a method: Vincent begins with a scenario outline, works through scenes with the actors, then rewrites them from their improvisations. His interest in the character's power meets a more delicate question: the director's power over the cast.

He also says he wants to leave this form behind immediately and attempt a genre film at the opposite end of Dogme. From his first feature, changing register emerges as a cinematic intention rather than a break in his career.
